Resinzwood Knot Hole resin is primarily used for filling Knot holes, cracks and voids, drying clear in colour. It is also widely used by resin artists for coasters, jewellery, top-coating artwork, and small tabletops. This product, when used for sealing timber, is perfect, and you can slightly modify it yourself by adding 10% methylated spirits, which makes the resin thinner for deeper penetration. Methylated spirits are inert and will evaporate very quickly from this product. Knot Hole resin is New Zealand-made, as we make it ourselves, creating jobs for New Zealanders. With each purchase, we give our customers a little extra in the form of pigments, dyes, or other gifts.
Resinzwood Knot Hole Resin is a two-to-one ratio by weight.
Method for mixing Resinzwood Knot Hole Resin
- Calculate the volume needed using our resin calculator on our site
- Add the proportion of hardener first to a container, then add the volume of resin. This ensures all resin molecules come into contact with the hardener molecules.
- Mix with a flat stick or paddle slowly so as not to aerate the product
- Pour from one container to another a few times. This is known as the two-bucket method.
- Apply thinly over your substrate/timber using your hand in a rubber glove or with a brush
- Do not push the brush up and down, as this will aerate the resin and make it go milky.
- Flame torch off to ensure all micro bubbles are dispersed
- After sanding between coats/applications to ensure your timber is fully sealed, use a high-pressure air gun and clean rags to remove any dust particles that may have got trapped in micro bubbles that have been exposed.
Resinzwood Knot Hole Resin Uses Include
- Filling Knot Holes, voids, small cracks up to 10mm deep
- Add 10% Blue methylated spirits or isopropyl alcohol to thin the resin once fully mixed. You do this after mixing part A and part B together. This will allow the resin to penetrate deeper into the timber.
- Final coat on boards or artwork, but in all honesty there are better products for this purpose like our Table Top resins
- Layering in resin art projects whereby you are using solid colours. Once again, knot hole resin can be used for this, but the best suited products are here: Art Resin
- As a concrete sealer if you really have to or have extra product you wish to use up.
- Resinzwood Knothole resin is an exellent product for boat building being used for layering chop-strand fibreglass or glass matting.
